Why another campus ministry?
Maybe you’re wondering why do we need another college campus ministry? After all, Campus Crusade for Christ and InterVarsity have been around for a long time.
Yes they have but these two heavy-weights in the campus ministry field still admittedly don’t have a handle on the vast need for reaching this demographic for Christ. As a matter of fact, these two ministry giants have welcomed Gu to the college mission field. Look what they have to say:
“I would like to explore opportunities for us to work together to reach this audience who are in a critical time of their life.” –D. Hardaway, Campus Crusade for Christ, Strategic Partnership
“I would be glad to help in any way I can.” –F. Bailey, InterVarsity Great Lakes Regional Director
Let’s face it the spiritual battle for souls continues to escalate. Forces in our society today are pulling these students over the edge. Gu endeavors to level the playing field in the fight against alcohol abuse, drug addictions, promiscuity, pornography, suicides, depression and other outward symptoms of a deeply hurting soul.
In an excerpt from a 2004 article by Neil Schoenherr, Washington University in St. Louis, the headline read: Depression, suicide are the major issues facing college students, says student health director. “The numbers are startling, National studies have shown that one in three college students is depressed and one in four contemplates suicide,” says Alan Glass, M.D., director of Student Health and Counseling and member of the American College Health Association’s board of directors. “Universities have realized that more and more resources are going to need to be focused on these areas.”
If you feel led to support this type of outreach, Gu welcomes your prayerful and financial support. With our website up we are now positioned to take the next step to flood campus newspapers and use social media with thought-provoking Christ-centered messages (see a sample of these illustrations on our website) and our vision to work with Christians of influence who are called to speak to students on campus. Donations in any amount may be made via our website or send your check made out to God uncomplicated, P.O. Box 1391 Layton, UT 84041-6391
